Ok guys being from the UK, i am still trying to work out what planking means (its a new one over here for me).
I would like to know what it means so i can contribute, then i might be able to work out why JW is getting so humpy lol.

hi mem,

planking is basically the placement of oneself in unusual or humorous places. the idea is to use your body and shape yourself like a plank, hence the term planking.

If you want to give it a go you simply need to lie stomach down, hands at sides, in your chosen position, where ever that may be.

when i first heard of planking and saw what these guys were doing it did seem like a waste of time. after seeing a few i have to admit it can be quite funny.

just remember to keep it safe, unlike the fool that tried to balance on a round rail several stories up a building whilst drunk. had to happen in oz. sorry australians!

if you google "planking" you will find some examples, even a facebook page dedicated to the subject.

simon.

Seems like a general discussion to me..... Sure it's not gold related but we've gotta have a laugh too don't we?
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

Originally I kinda figured General Discussions could be used by the community to discuss anything they wanted. First it was duck shooting, now planking. As long as the focus of the other areas is gold I don't have any issue myself. I will remove spam though.

Regarding planking death... there's always going to be someone who takes things too far (can be said about any activity performed while drunk I guess). I'm sure they've just submitted themselves for a Darwin Award ;)

Hi kiwijw,

Hope I didn't offend you with my post supporting off-topic conversations on the discussions part of forums. Wasn't my intention. Just notice you've gone quiet which I think is a shame as you're a valuable member of the group who's shared a great deal of knowledge that I'm sure other members have found very useful as well as myself. Or perhaps you're just on an extended trip in the bush hauling out a world record breaking boulder of gold?!

Come back jw - we miss you! ;)

gavin,

maybe we could limit it to planking photos that have a gold theme. ie, on the sluicebox, in the workings, tailrace, on a stamper, etc, etc.

should be a laugh but haven't seen much so far. i guess its pretty cold out at present tho.

Sorry guys I probably shouldn't have put the duck shooting thread up. I know of some forums that have been ruined by too much off topic stuff like politics etc. and it makes them a real pain in the a** to read. Or find useful info. I'll stay to topic from now on.
Cheers

I think the duck hunting would be fine as long as you were using nuggets for shot. Good and heavy and lead free! Then you could sluce them out again and reuse them right?

@kiwijw - nah, not been out much myself. Water's a bit cold for me at the moment without a gear upgrade! And decided I need to try out some other detecting options so haven't been out doing that either. Will start doing some real detector search soon for my next machine - interesting watching the detector chatter on the forums though. Hoping to get out in the bush and scope out a few areas soon though ;)
