Hi guys I thought I had better introduce myself as I have been reading these forums for a few weeks and have recently bought a metal detector. Today I had a play in Hagley park to try to get the hang of it. I found an 1882 shilling and a 1945 sixpence.

Welcome to the forums, from one new guy to another and congrats on the finds!

What detector/etc did you pick up?

Thanks L0gic. I picked up a used x-terra 705 off ebay. I wanted something that could possibly be used to find gold nuggets as well as coins etc. It seems to be really sensitive going by some of the tiny bits of foil I spent ages digging up.

I don't have a pinpointer so its taking me a while to find the targets.

I know what you mean, I'm without pinpointer at the moment.. Some of the things you can find are very small, it's very needle/haystack.

I had been putting my detector (F2) down with the coil about half a foot from the plug (easy arm reach) and swipe handfuls of dirt over the coil, helps to narrow it down.. There has so far only been one obvious find staring me in the face after flipping a plug over, and it was the large half of a coke can!

Hope we get better weather this weekend though, need to find some clad for the Garret ProPonter fund, lol.
