You did a good job there.

Caught up with Foiled and Number8 at North Hagley last night, had a good few digs!

Didn't photo the trash but there was about seven bottle tops, three pull-tabs one can and six shell casings.

Hey mate, nice bunch of finds there. That small button looks interesting....what's the design on it? It kinda looks like an anchor but really hard to tell.
That 1888 penny is in really good nic too.........what did you use to clean it with?
You musta taken off in an awful hurry last night. One minute you were about 20 metres from me.......nek minute......I look up and I'm all on me own!

Coins were just rinsed under water and dried off quickly, haven't even tried cleaning them yet. It is in pretty good condition.

I yelled out before I left, wasn't sure if you heard me or not.. But I stopped swinging near the tree-line and snuck to my car without being noticed by the masses!

Yeah...nah mate, wasn't being rude...just didn't hear you with me headphones on in'all. I'm guessing it was about the same time as I was digging the 1868 sixpence (last dig of the night), so I guess I was in full concentration mode anywayz.
Yeah....that 1888 penny is in great nic for a 125 year old coin. Obviously the bit of dirt that it came from hasn't seen much corrosive fertilizer over the years.
Nice bit of treasure for the chest there l0gic..........catch up for another hunt again soon aye.

Re- Scoop Mode.
Its gonna brake :-( and the scoop going to bend - Brett tried that- and worked for maybe a month

Suggestion:

Invest in Proper stainless steel scoop, yes its about 250$ .. but if you quit- it doesnt loose its value at all and can sell for same price.

I kinda know it won't last long, that why I did it as cheap as I could. It's only being used in dry sand and I don't know how often I will even head to the beach (maybe more in summer) but it'll do until it breaks.

My brother-in-law is quite magic with metal and welding. When we get some spare time, I'm going to draw-up some scoop plans (probably a couple of different designs to test/for fun) and have another friend who has access to a laser CNC table that should be able to make all the cuts.. Should only cost me a sheet or two of metal and a few dozen beers!

And if they work out well, I'll let you all know and do a limited run if there's interest.. Still, could be a couple of months away before I get into that though!

Out at Hagley yesterday evening, there was a few of us around actually. It looked quite busy!

Notable finds:
Silver Ring (.925 & 4.98 grams)
3x Penny (1930, 1940, and the third has worn smooth and cannot see the date)
2x old 10c - 1x 2c - 3x 1c
$5.50 spendable

Quite a bit of trash still; several shell casings, bottle tops and pull tabs.. But I'm getting better at 'reading' targets!

I made my scoop out of plastic pvc,its very strong, will never break and I can run the scoop over the coil to see if target is in the scoop without double handling everything.

Managed to get some soil under my coil yesterday at a secret new location.

It's over the fence from my in-laws, I thought it would be a waste of time but I covered maybe 60 square meters during the time I had and managed to pull out mainly coins. There was very little trash at all, in fact there was just two old pull tabs, a modern bottle top, an old buckle a capacitor (random as it is) and the key.

No silver yet, but I'll be taking my detector around whenever the missus drags me over there again!

Caught up with Foiled and No8 last-night.

Bit of a nightmare really, the F2 was getting a lot of false signals. Ended up running minimum sensitivity and swinging a little hight than usual, got bored pretty quickly with that ground and just stopped to dig the solid higher tones, a lot of sprigs and cans.. Only a few coins.

Did find an interesting pile of broken links about an inch under the surface, in the poor light and through the dirt we thought we may have seen gold, but after a quick clean and some daylight I think it's just plated (if not junk) and appears to have magnets (gold in colour) on the inside of each link.. No idea!
