They were pretty filthy, Gave them a soak in ammonia and a bit of a rub with baking soda. I am aware that polishing coins is a no no but they were not worth anything in the state they were in.

Sorry I did not mean to be critical. I just wondered how you got them looking good.

No worries MK I didn't take your comment as a criticism. I just thought I would say something before there were loads of people telling me not to clean coins.
I see that you are based in Auckland.... maybe we could go for a hunt sometime?
Happy hunting.

Hi Y'all, Here are a few more finds from my local park. A wee Mary and Child icon made from a heavy base metal plated with bronze and a couple of coins and a crazy silver ring.

metal detectors anonymous..... Hi my name is Max and it has been about a month since my last hunt..... But I'm back on the wagon finally.. happy days.
Knocked off work early on wednesday and squeezed in a two hour hunt at a new spot.
Scored my second half crown. 1933. also a sixpence and a shilling both 1933.
And a nice wee brass and red enamel badge.
Hopefully I will get out for a hunt tomorrow.

Went for a short hunt today at another park. No silvers today. a few half pennys and pennys and a crazy load of one and two cent pieces.
One find I thought worth mentioning is an 1875 uk penny. It was sitting right on the surface, no digging required.
Just wondering if anyone else has found anything that old sitting on the surface.

My one and only farthing, 1916, sitting on top of the ground in the middle of Gisborne, saw it from 5 metres away.

I found my oldest coin to date this week. Pretty crap condition so not worth a photo but 1844 or 1847, can't quite make out last number. That would make it around 170 years old. I can't wait to break the 200 year mark. Only one silver... a 1937 shilling. Not bad seeing as I only had around 45 minutes hunt time.

Hi all, I finally got out for a hunt today...... now my back hurts... never mind.
I found three half crowns, two of them very close, about a metre apart. Unfortunately they were not silver. 1947 just missed out and a 1950. However the third one was a 1934..... sweet.
Also three 3 pence, 1939, 1943 and 1944
one 6 pence, 1939
And a nice wee silver kiwi pendant.
Also the usual pennies and half pennies.
pennies = 5*NZ, 5*UK, 1*AUS
half pennies = 2*UK, 1*NZ
I hope Y'all had a grand labour day.

good on ya! I always prefer Silver coins over gold jewellery! I don't know what it is but Silver coins seem to be special...
