My dad lives in Oamaru & would probably enjoy company on a day trip to 2 to Dansey's Pass.

Let me know if you want to give him a call.

There was gold closer to Christchurch than Danseys Pass and not one person in recent years has looked there to the best of my knowledge. It is a spot away in behind Waimate called Kaiwarua (Sp) - sort of pronounced Kai-va-roo
It was mined many, many years ago but the miners were given the bums rush by the runholders I believe as they were caught stealing sheep for meat.
A lot of research and delving deep into historical information and accounts might bring some accounts, records and locations to light. It is one of the spots I was going to go to many years ago but time ran out.

You can buy the place if you have a few spare bob. http://www.trademe.co.nz...ty/auction-297100665.htm

I see that gold panning in the river is one of the recreational activities, together with the fishing, hunting, sheep farming etc.

I wouldnt mind owning it to - its nice out there. I did not know that the current owners even had an inkling that there was gold out there and I was very surprised to note that myself when I read their site.
