Another yarn for you - I have a series of photos here which I cannot put up but do show to visitors. I have been invited to go there and the possibility is an ounce to two ounces per day - panning. To cut a long story short the old fellow bought a farm, dug a fence hole and Oops - gold, Took out a licence and got to work, Sold the gold on the futures market at $800 per ounce, four years work, 35 ounces per day. I have photos of the sluice box fill from one end to the other and sitting around the table 'eating' 'rice bubbles' sadly I promised never to put them up on forums or share via this medium.
The place is amazingly close to civilisation...and that reminds me back in 1969 a chap at Totora Flat every Friday used to go up into the forest (Granville Forest) and in half an hour had half an ounce of gold which I understand was raffled on a Friday night in Reefton at a club.
