First Hunt - Newbie's first day out

Hi there,

Not sure if this is the place to put it but here goes.

Im Chris and new to metal detecting.

So i watched on sky tv last night the show called "diggers" and it got me inspired today to go out to my shed and brush off a cheap (nasty) metal detector i had from years ago that i never used. After having a play and trying to figure out how it works decided to give my back yard a spin over.

I came across old bottle bottle caps, pie tin, rusty iron and an old brown bottle . I was about to call it a day when i came across my last site. I dug down 5cm and found some coal / charcoal, dug about another 5cm and came up with some yellow number plates from 1961 - 1966.

Needless to say i am hooked and now want to get a decent beginners metal detector! So much to learn.
