Think you missed what I meant ST - I was agreeing with you that the quality is good but... with the model I have the blade is just to narrow and the handle is about 3cm to short, it's great for digging into the side of a plug or carefully popping but if you push it into the soil you are pushing down on your other hand not on the butt of the handle, that pressure forces your other hand over the blade. Even if it's not being used correctly in this case that still doesn't change it's other design flaws. I believe it was a freebie with a detector - shame as the quality of the metal seems very good. As I said the wider ones might not be that bad!

Might not be as bad with the wider ones.

No worries ST - Sometimes I wonder if English is my primary language.

So to make it clear Wilcox brand very good quality metal, one piece rolled design no welds to let go. Model All-Pro No. 50 would also be very good if you have hands that are the size of a 4 year olds. If the handle was at least 3cm longer model No. 50 would also be a lot more user friendly.

Would never use a folding shovel in a park. In a paddock perhaps or at the beach. My Lesche has been handy but so is my propointer. There is no way I have found enough to cover the cost of them yet cos I don't get out enough. My bad. Tell you what though, hard Marlborough ground in the summer, no problem. Wet ground in the summer, no problem. A very nice piece of kit.

cheers shilo, $85 wow bit dare for a digging tool i was thinking $50 tops i cant justify spending that on a gardening tool lol ill stick to my trowel for now

Sounds expensive but worth every sent and not much difference in price then getting one from overseas. Save up those $1's & $2's that you dig up for a couple of weeks, a major advantage of this hobby is that it pays for itself even for expensive gear. Until you use a Lesche or [url=http://www.predatortools.com/item_details.asp?ID=40]Predator (which is the original Lesche) you don't know what you're missing, a trowel just doesn't compare.

The Lesche is a toy compared to the Wilcox All Pro No 202 Stainless Steel Digger

Sure every man & their dog wants a Lesche, but I too am like goldstalker - there is no way the Lesche is worth what they are retailing here for

Goldstalker - your using an AT Pro - get the Wilcox if you can - easier on deeper targets and cheaper

Sorry sycotoad ...I have to disagree..the lesche is no toy compaird to the 202 you talk of...looking at the picture of the 202 i much prefer the handle of the lesche..that 202 looks like it could do some damage to your hand should it slip were as the lesche has a great sturdy T shaped handle that stops your hand from sliping onto the knife part......
I cant say how strong the 202 is as i havnt used one..but i can say to date i havnt found anything as strong as the lesche knife .. the lesche will go through, around, under and into just about every digging area of this hobbie of ours.

I also disagree about them not being worth what they retail for here... when you think about how sturdy they are and the very unlikly chance that one will break how long is it going to last you? it may last what 20 , 30, maybe even 40 some odd years.. ..lets just say 20 years.... thats 4 bucks a year it cost you....i dont know of to many things that will cost you 4 bucks a year that will endure what these knife will.

Think I'll be buying into the Lesche family soon too. Today went for a hunt with the wife and she managed to not only break one of my pro-pointers by woman-handling it but also managed to break one my other putty knife digging tools ok when I say "my" I mean "hers" but it still hurts! - I have dug thousands of holes with my liddle $5 magic tool. She didn't break the blade or pop the rivet nope she somehow managed to actually break the handle.

Pro-pointer has been repaired luckily I still have some switches lurking around. Sadly the Putty knifes digging days are over.

Best not answer that head on as she frequently reads my posts, so I will say in a stereo-typical way that often the ladies use things as levers that aren't eg keys and cutlery. And no I don't ask for directions, I simply tell my phone where I want to go....

I got another putty knife from Bunnings today tried a different one that has a nicer handle and was the big $9 The original type I use are cheaper at bunnings and are $3.80. The Warehouse has them for $5.99 but although they look identical the bunnings ones were definitely better quality as the ones from the Warehouse had already started to bubble under the plating.

I have a strange curse. When I have money I don't have time, when I have time I don't have money. Recently I had no time or money thanks to a non paying employer. Short answer yes I'd like to meet some more forum members - hopefully sooner rather than later, unfortunately a matter of funding at the moment but I'm working on it!
