gday all just wandering if anyone is any good at identifiying hallmarks!i found this blade from an old pocket knife at lake rotorua but am having trouble identifying the hallmarks! [img]null[/img]UserPostedImage

ahh crap my pics never work on this forum lol! any way the mark is a head in a circle then a crown in a square then the leter s in a square then a lion and then the makers mark A&O.

Hiya, The crown mark is for Sheffield, England and the 's' is for 1885 year of manufacture. A&O is the makers mark. Nice find.
I found a nice engraved silver knife last weekend but it turned out to be silver plate..... Bummer. Also found a nice walker and hall silver teaspoon...... also plated but in lovely condition.... now lives in our sugar bowl.

cheers mate i cleaned it up some more and it revealed a kings bust on it to!

Hiya, It is probably 1807 if it is a kings bust. George 111. After zooming in on the 's' it looks more like 1807. The 1807 's' has serifs on it and the 1885 is sans serif. That makes it a nice 200+ year old find....... sweet.

my camera is out of action at the moment but george 3 or william 4 are only ones that look the part!i am leaning towards george3!
