Hi guYs I'm in the stages of building a dredgenz 4in dredge, this stuff is all new to me I have only used a small sluice just for fun. But I have been watching far to much discovery channel. And now I have a fascination with wanting to do it.. So much so I told my partner that next year im throwing in my job and goin gold mining..

Anyway my problem I have is that I had a 9hp Honda motor that had a trash pump on it. So when purchasing various other bits at the same time I explain to the sales man ( who we won't name) but I told him I had a Honda 9hp pump and wat sorta pump would he recommend.. He said yes I can help with that and the explained that the Keene p180 pump was a perfect match so nearly 4g later my car was loaded and off home I went to build my new dredge.. Well it come time to fit the pump to motor after removing trash pump and well what do we know... The p180 pump don't fit the shaft was to big. And I brought all the hoses for that pump to. After a few phones back to the shop i explained and he pretty much said there was no refund as his shop wAs closing. So my question is wat engine does the p180 pump fit upto? I've been looking at a few Honda 5.5hp gx160 but don't wanna waste more time and hassle if its no good..

So any help would be very great full..

Thanks

you need an engine with a 5/8 threaded shaft, you could have an engineer turn your 3/4 shaft down or look for a 2" brown brothers pump, these were usually mounted on 5.5 hp briggs vangard motors. If you find one and they come up quite often on trademe, remove the pump and your p180 will bolt straight on.If you go with the first option ,you'll need to make sure the mounting holes on the backing plate of the pump match the the set of holes cast into the block and the shaft length is critical ,your engineer will help with this. Personally I reckon the 9hp motor you've got is a bit of overkill, too heavy for a 4" dredge, better suited to a 5".If you find a vangard( well under a grand new, with the right shaft} the 5.5 is perfect for a recreational 4'' dredge. They're made in Japan, quiet.economical, and reliable.Built like a brick shithouse, will last for years...good luck

Dood dredge building is not much fun did no1 tell you that:)...as pc500 said a 5'' would be much better suited to a 9hp id say your p180 would be just big enough to run it and if ur serious about dredging ul want a bigger dredge than 4''.
here is a link if you scroll down you see the pump diagram.

i have a dredgenz 5 inch dredge, using a p180 pump on a 5.5hp honda engine, i have the dredge running as a 4inch as i dive around 3-4 metres and need extra suction for the depth im diving if i was in the shallows i would change it back to 5inch. a cheap option for you would be to buy a cheap chinese honda replica and p180 will bolt straight on make sure you get the correct shaft size tho on what ever motor you choose goodluck

p180 is a great pump I have one on my 4" and a 6.5hp Honda motor
personally I wouldn't use less than a 6.5hp motor

for the money you seem to be spending you would have been better of getting a keen 4" lite new has good length of hose with more suck than ??????
if you can put an adaptor on your shaft you should use your 9.5 motor less work for the motor to do to get the same result

good luck with the giving up work
