Hi All,
Don't know if there's been any discussion on the Forum about the new History Channel UK series.
Haven't heard any talk of it coming to our shores as yet either. Looks pretty interesting tho!

I watched the first two episodes.. Not great.

It's all too forced and they don't find much, one or two old coins supposedly from one of the hoards all ready found that the finders had missed.
Not much in the way of technical stuff about detectors or detecting just a couple of guys talking much too loudly.

Still it fills in a drab evening.

Just seen the first episode. Marginally better then the 2 US "Digger" programs and Roman / Saxon stuff will make a change from "Civil War this and civil war that. Pity about their chosen detectors though.... :)

Link to the first episode is here: http://movreel.com/rawy83l7sfb9 Just choose Free Download.
Keep an eye out on this page for the next episodes appearing: http://www.watchseries-online.eu/category/hoard-hunters

I must be the only person that enjoyed Diggers. The wife watched it with me, all be it not necessarily by choice. Ok the random power slides and tree climbing after finding some 'Sweet Nectar' gets old pretty quick but hey if nothing else they were full of enthusiasm. Oh wait I can't be the only one who liked it apparently there is going to be a season 2.

The Hoard Hunters seemed a little awkward in places but as Shilo said at least it was something different.

Cheers

Buggar missed my mark on mentioning season 2 by ...that... much....

"Boom Baby" . I thought Rick Savage and his crew make for a top show on American Digger. The money they get for thier finds is big.

I think their payouts (and some of their finds ) are as realistic as Rick's wrestling was......

The other show just started is "Digger Wars" using 3 teams. Only seen one episode but it was still very much the same as the other Digger shows. My favourite is actually the show "Mud Men", although they don't find much and detectors are really used its - informing, believable and not over the top.

Aargh... got to disagree Shilo, Mudmen could have been fantastic but putting that idiot Johhny Vaughn on it to provide a bit of unnecessary 'humour' totally spoils it. Watching him makes me want to eat my own scrotum.

Mud Men is a cool show although its not on much. We need a show like that here but that would probably end in disaster as our history seems to want to stay buried.

Probably Shane as we are supposed to leave it there if it's over 100 years old/pre-dates 1900, something like that, ignorance is bliss... even that seems very political, they don't want us to find our history as it would probably reveal a very different past to what is told but we will save that conspiracy theory for another day *8^)

The closest program we have had is the "What Lies Beneath" archaeological series but that only ran to a few episodes. It was good because it had a mix of factual Maori and European history and not just completely full of Maori myths and legends etc. Its not that nobody is interested in such a program but that the local archaeologists seem to keep things close and rarely publish. But I wouldn't want to see a "Digger" type series here because of the damage that can be done from those copying and being ignorant of the detecting ethics.

Its hard to say where a Digger style show would fit in here. A hundred years of history is surely enough to appease the numbers but as you say, they are all worried about what else may surface.
I do understand now that all historical sites must be checked by archeologists before rebuilding etc can commence on any said site. I suppose that counts for something.
