Hey guys and girls,

As a newbie the Garrett AT Gold has my interest for purchasing

Any tips for buying on-line? or suggestions for another brand with equivalent or better performance?

More info needed. What sort of detecting are you planning on doing?

A: Detecting for gold nuggets?

B: Coin/jewelry /relics on land or freshwater only?

C: Coin & jewelry on saltwater beaches?

If you were planning on A &/or B above then the AT Gold will be a good one to get. (The gold is better in minerlised soils then the Pro)
If you are thinking about B &/or C then the AT Pro will be a better detector for you. (the Pro handles salt conductivity better then the Gold)
If you are only thinking about B then either one will do a good job.

There are many other brands that are also very good in the same price range but at the moment it is only the AT's that are waterproof as well. All the other waterproof makes are more expensive. So if you don't plan on going into the water then your options are much greater.

Everybody has their personal favorite brand, its a bit like Holden vs Ford. But if somebody makes a recommendation then do the research and find out if that detector really does what you want it to do then compare it with the others recommended.
