hello to all my name is eddie currently living up north whangarei. i have recently been down to the south island and did some panning down at 12mile, arrow river and tucker beach, all in all i found maybe 2 grams, due to lack of skill i think, i also tried panning at puhipuhi on the weekend but didn't find anything. i am hoping to get down to coromandel over easter and maybe do better. i would also be keen to catch up with any one over easter to do some hunting and pick up a few tips
cheers
eddie

Nice work Eddie,ya cant complain if thats your first time.
Finding the yella is not as easy as people think it is especially if you are not useing Dredges or large scale equipment.
Good luck on the coro over Easter,Keep us all posted.

Go hard

hi zimbo,

i'm in queenstown so always keen for a trip up the arrow.

you got a 4wd?

where have you been in the arrow previously?

i've been over quite a bit of the area, mostly looking at the historic stuff. found a bit of gold too.

got a sluice and a detector. still pretty warm at the moment (for this time of year) but bound to get very cold sooner or later.

was out today in a 3mm up to my thighs. not too bad really.

flick me an email when you're ready.

simon.

Hi Zimbo...wow 2 grams still sounds alright mate I did my first ever trip panning and sluicing earlier this year up the arrow river and certainly want to head back if not for anything else other than just the beautiful serenity and scenery of the place. Finding any gold is just an added bonus I reckon ;) I ended up with some very fine dust in my bottle after taking my sluice fines home and panning on my porch with a few cold tui's :)

I'm very keen to learn more about sniping as I'm a keen snorkler for salmon lures in the rangatata river, and after seeing what these lads on here find doing it, it seems a fun adventure that also gives good color!

I'm like you and fairly "green" around the collar but seems like theres quite a few good buggers using this site and that are happy to meet up. I too have a 4wd, sluice, detector etc and after seeing some of the old timers inventions on here I'm sure after growing up watching McGuyver i can make a few extra tools up to help out. I will definitely try and contact you or other local fossickers on my next trip, which all going well should be in the next couple of months before the big snows come.

Cheers and good luck on your next outing...I've atached a photo of the small amount I got in the arrow. Proved 2 things, 1 I don't know what I'm doing and 2, I can pan some pretty damn fine gold haha
