Now if you had offered old reels, greenheart rods, ancient guns, bombs, grenades, ammunition, medals, bullets, militaria and so on then my eyes would have popped and I would have been asking more questions!

Good luck with your sale though...ever thought of sitting downtown with dark glasses on, a bucket in front of you, a white cane and a sign saying 'Give Generously to the Blind Man'...or busking. I noticed a bloke downtown here in Dunedin a while ago had more money in a Viledin case from busking than I used to earn in a day - he seemed to be making a mint.

Oh come on now Lammerlaw, we all know that your collecting interests extend well beyond that paltry little list.

jeff-b In keeping with a story I once heard about a chap who indeed did sit with dark glasses and a white cane soliciting money from the gullible on the pretext of being blind and then when it was time to go home got up, went to his car, took out his car keys and drove home I thought that what is good for him is good for anyone!

Robert - You have to prioritize!

ps - the good news is that I brought your cooker down home from up a at my place so that no one would pinch it - the bad news is I dont know where it is - the good news is that if I cant find it then let me know its value and I will pay for it - the bad news is I have changed my address and am now living in Siberia!
on a serious note though call in on the way past...Dunedin that is - not Siberia!

Jeff you could always just get one of those detectors that looks like a walking cane. Would have to keep your wits about you if you are up north as undesirable types may think wooohoooo lost blind guy lets mug him.

Best of luck with the fund raising, doing a bit of that myself.

Funny you say that as I was just sititng here a couple of hours ago thinking to myself that Imust get me a decent genuine Samurai sword one day...when I can afford it.
Ordinary Japanese swords arent in my line though as Dad brought one back from Japan and if you flexed it like Zorro then it stayed bent! One of my uncles brought back four unissued German bayonets - someone swiped three of them and I got the fourth while my cousin got the sword - I got the better end of the bargain!

I used to have a genuine samurai sword, disappeared while I was away at university and so far I have not been able to get out of the relatives what became of it (and a couple good rifles). The disappearance of my 1966 Ford Mustang was less of a mystery as my brother was seen driving it for several years. Glad to hear that my luck is changing and that you retrieved my cooker, there is a chance that I will be passing through in the next week or two.

What is the blade length and total length? Is it signed? Would like to see some photos of it.
I have had two unsigned blades and both were early 1900 made - one broke when I used it for cutting Old Mans Beard! That one is now my general purpose knife!
The other I still have and it was on Trademe - cost a 100 because no one knew what it was as it had been dismounted and a European style handle had been put on it to make it look like a European sword for Scottish Sword Dancing - the only way it could be determined to be a Samurai sword was its shape and the fact that it still had its Habaki. It is however an early 1900s blade and inferior to the early ones. In other words typical of the Army issue ones.
