Ive noticed that there are a few of us on here who are keen hunters so i thort id share my first roar trip.
Iv been hunting for nearly 10 years now and due to work and having kids (3) iv never managed to time it right and get out while the big fellas are roarin.
Well, not this year. All the planets aligned and even the missus (boss) said i could get away. yee haa!!!
First trip was just an overnighter to see the country we had chosen but we were to early as all was quiet.
The next time we all got permission to head out was about 3 weeks later. I was a bit dis heartened as I thort we had probably missed the roar and alot of rumours were sayin there hadnt realy been a roar as such.
anyhow we had 4 days away on this trip and i was itching to try out me new roarin horn. We 4wd into the first hut fairly late the first night and as soon as i jumped out the truck i let out a huge roar that echoed thro the valley........
Nothing. Quiet as a quiet thing. there were 4 of us standing there looking at each other. The only thing herd was a faint Bugga muttered by one of the group as it also had started to rain. We woke to a clear freash day, orsum. We made our plans and drove further up the valley, parked the truk then split up. I decided to go high with a mate. real high. All was quiet and no stags were seen but me mate shot a hind on the way back to the tents. next mornin we tramped back down and hooked up with the others in the next valley round to find one of them had shot his first deer. a nice 8 point stag. Sweet. Decided to take the newby on a bush stalk that arvo up the same valley. As we were heading up we heard a faint roar. Now at this stage we hadnt heard a bean so i hadnt packed me new horn, typical. I thort id give it a crack with just me hands and let rip. well stone the crows!! 5 stags went crazy with 3 real close. we were coming up on a clearing were we could try and ambush one of them. i let out a roar and witin seaconds this stag bellowed and charged through the bush at us. he busted out a mere 8mtrs away and just stared at us. i resisted the urge to sqeal like a girl and run and quikly shot him through the neck. then i sat down and checked me gruds and tried to stop shaking. when i finally stopped shaking i rolled the big boy over, wow, a big 8 point rack with good height. not a trophy but the most exciting hunt ive ever had. me other mate also shot a 7 pointer that evining too meaning we all got a animal each. Rest of the time was un eventfull
In the photos my head is the one on the right and also were we camped on the tops.

Just as well you didn't take me. I wouldn't have been able to resist the urge to squeal like a girl.

Nor me. Not my cup of tea at all I'm afraid.
Hunting with a detector is as brave as I get.

My greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my collection for what I told her it cost me.
