I recently brought 42 Kgs of Kauri gum on Trademe. Half of it is really good and I've got a rock tumbler and a vibrating tumbler And I'am playing with bits on my wood lathe.
But the question is what to do with the reject bits. I've got half a bucket of dust. I know Moari used to grind it up and use it as a fire starter or hand held torch. Has anyone made any home made fireworks ? Has anyone heated it up and poured it into a mould ?
I also have a sack of white soft gum.

From memory Shellac is made from the secretion of a Lac beetle. Pretty sure it's a bug from India. Used to manage an Indonesian / Indian furniture shop in Chch so I hope I'm right *8^)

Of course it may have been copied by the Chinese by now and sold at a heavily discounted price *8^)

I think that if you do some research on internet then you might get some good ideas as verious internet sites make mention of Kauri gum chips and dust and you will see what these were used for and their use in various products.
