Hi gold fossickers! I'm really hoping you guys can help me!

I'm trying to buy 2-3g NZ gold to go into an engagement ring. I have been quoted $180 a gram by a jeweller. Does this sounds like a reasonable price? Alternatively, do any of you sell gold privately on here?

the jeweller saw you coming - where are you?

If you had been out here in Kiwiland you could have visited me and had a chat about it but if you are on the wrong side of the planet then its a bit far to come for 3 grams of gold!

If the jeweller had quote $200 for the full three grams then he would have been giving it to you at a fair price methinks and if you had been here I might have let you have that amount for that price but there will be others on the site who will be prepared to ship overseas I am sure but I have no idea how much insured shipping costs..

I could do you around 3 grams of NZ gold if needed. However $180 would be fair if you are buying it over there, as my price with shipping would be around that area also. maybe more for insurance .....

Did someone say fair at $180 per gram - If I can get that I will offload more than a gram - add a number and add kilo to it as I know where I could replace it several times over at that price - isnt gold about $53 NZ per gram at the moment or have I missed the bus somewhere?

Depending on the cost of sending to Britain I could well consider letting someone have three grams - not because I have a need for money because I havent really but because I do not like and never have liked seeing people getting ripped off by thieves and charlatans.

Unless of course there is a misunderstanding and the price is that quoted to source NZ gold then to have it shipped to Britain and then to process it into a ring in which case the all up cost of the ring might be worth $180 per gram.

hi all, thanks for the replies.

First thing I should have made clear is I'm in NZ at the moment, on the south island, and I'll be here for about another 5 weeks, so I'd really like to get everything sorted soon!

also, I double checked and the price from the jeweller was slightly different- 120+GST not including any postage or anything.

golddigger and Scorpio, I'll pm you when I get the chance!

I have not heard back from him because I was prepared to let him have some because he was from out of Kiwiland but I have not heard back from him - he did offer a fair price but I had not accepted it I must admit as I dont know him personally.

I guess I have two prices - one for those I dont know and have never met and one for friends! I also find it exremely hard doing deals unseen and unknown via the internet. If my memory servesme correctly he offered me $180 which is fair and square but I had decided $200 for three grams however I weigh on old Gold scales and always add a fair bit to make up for scale inaccuracies so he would have ended up with over 3 grams...I can only assume he got his gold from one of the other guys - I hope he did as I dont particularly wish to sell.

I am sure that if he is still in Kiwiland and has not got any yet then he will let us know that he has not got any yet.
