I don't know whats going on around the rest of the country but way down south here I have noticed that the council contractors for mowing parks, reserves etc do NOT clear the areas first of rubbish, glass, cans etc - but instead mow straight over them causing untold CANSLAW to be left on the surface, just waiting to be inserted into a future All Blacks hand, foot, face, etc

Now if we look at the reasoning behind some councils going ape shite at us for metal detecting their parks - it comes down to their belief that we 'The Metal Detectorists' are apparently leaving the parks in a worse condition than what they were before we started (We know that's rubbish because we are removing rubbish) -

But if that is the criteria that the councils are using to ban Metal Detectorists from parks, reserves etc, then surely the same bans should be implemented on THEIR appointed contractors - I mean lets face it, if you or me scattered sharpened pieces of alloy all over public parks you would be arrested and prosecuted & rightfully so - so why, asides from their lack of accountability & responsibilities do they allow this to happen on a weekly basis?

Thank goodness there's a switched on community that has taken it upon themselves to clean up these area's of concern, that our councils seem to be failing on year after year.

If you are unfortunate enough to be approached by the wee power trippers feel free to let them know this =

I agree, it's not tooooo bad in Dunedin considering VERY few parks have rubbish bins, being from Chch I was dumbfounded by that- when I questioned Delta about it they said basically it comes down to usage vs vandalism (So In reality I guess it's a budget issue).

Going back to my first point that it's not to bad is it because of people like us cleaning the place up or is it that people just don't go to the parks anymore.

I know I have removed A LOT of items from parks that could have caused serious injury, usually I've had to take it home with me and dispose of it due to the lack of bins.
