Ok so I have cleaned out this park in Thames of modern spendable's. Over the last 2 weeks I have hit it hard and recovered close to a hundred dollars or maybe a bit more following the trash lines. I spent a bunch on lunches and wine :) Now this was with a sensitivity setting of 1 to 25 on the Gold Bug Pro, 5" coil. Very dry, crumbly ground, almost dead grass.

I have also got 4 British penny's from 1915 to 1921 and a 1964 shilling. All these coins were no more than 2" down in the 77 - 80 range. So today after about 4 hours and only 5 dollars recovered I wound up the sens to max and had a prospect... way too dry to dig deep. Loads of good numbers showing up and I know there must be a sovereign or two down there.....

So when it finally rains a bit, what numbers do I look for?????

Cheers
Mike

Just to make life simple - on both my detectors a full sovereign rings up the same as an old 20c piece so be prepared for a lot of digging!

So that's 64-65 on the gold bug which seems a bit high for gold but what do I know :) 66 is the dreaded large old pull tab so yeah lots of digging.. Ok good one thanks.

Hi, on my teknetics the full sovereign could come in around same as old 20c piece which is around 67 on mine but the last two half sovereigns I found also wavered up to 72 . They went like 68 then second sweep 72, sweep back 68 then sweep again 72. The old 20c and 50c pieces never do that, but are solid at 67/68. That is sweep one way 67 sweep another way 67. A gold coin should also sound like a good signal, a nice tone. One I found at say 4 inches others deeper. I recall my first half sov at lower numbers like 61 /62. good luck.

Thanks guys

So a bit of a range then. But it gives me a range to look for, I like to target particular numbers for a few days and ignore everything else when hunting in trash. Then switch targets and go over again. So anything in that number range over 4" I will dig and see.

Good luck with your sov quest.
I would suspect that regardless of the numbers a sov would give you a good whack in the ears through the headphones. ;-)
