I found this 1921 english penny less than an inch down and I would like to clean of the green stuff.
I was just whizzing the GoldBug along a concrete cycle path looking for spendables and this came up 78 on the dial, so I flicked it out with a screwdriver and it's the first English penny I have found. It's worthless but it's my first so if anyone can tell me the best way to clean it I would appreciate it.
Just after I put this in my pouch a guy approached for a chat..... Oh no not another time waster I thought. Well it turned out to be a very interesting guy who had Metal Detected in the Middle East and found loads of roman and middle ages coins etc. I now have an invite to go and view them.... see if I can swap some stuff :)
But anyway he was saying some interesting stuff like Thames is full of gold sovereigns.. or should be.. because the old miners and locals used them more than anywhere else in NZ per head of Population. Another tip is that if you find an old door lock, look carefully inside, kids used to put coins in them and jam them so they would then get replaced....
Sometimes the rewards are not just in the ground :)
