Why buy?

Have they got a DSIR division up there - the DSIR had really ace bottles and we always used them for our gold. The glass is thick and I only ever saw two break - one when I shook heck out of it for some obscure reason - having adults adh whatever its called I probably wanted to see how much torture the bottle full of gold could endure before it broke. The second bottle fell off the mantelpiece and hit the rock hearth!

The small bottles fill took 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 ounces of gold and the larger ones more...believe it or not! The photo shows the bottles I mean - not the larger one in the middle though - it is a Greggs Essence bottle

When I go out in the field gold mining I take plastic pill bottles - the clear brown ones break easily so the white plastic ones are best.

In any case if you ask a chemist if he can get you the DSIR bottle he might be able to help.

There is a chap down here has maybe several thousand small plastic vials each of which might take 1/2 to 3/4 ounce of gold - how big do you want. They have push on lids not screw on but they appear to be quite good - he was gold panning on my place with his son last Saturday and I noticed him using them and he told my son at one stage that he could take as many as he wanted though to strangers they would be for sale as he runs a business.

That photo was taken so long ago that I cannot remember when but probably about 1985 - the answer is that it is a little of the gold I got and the reason I even took the photo I cannot recall. It is the only photo I have on hand of the type of bottle I wanted to illustrate for the thread author. The yellow top bottle is 1/6th of one days find in the Arrow River either January 1976 or January 1977.

They are good for that and if you keep them full of water then they will not float away if you drop them in the creek.

When you said that you just want a 1 to 1 1/2 ounce one to take crevicing then you reminded me that a long time ago I had a larger DSIR bottle with me and it held three ounces - I also had a small bottle of whisky - On the day in question I had to put the DSIR bottle away in my pack and use the whisky bottle - I kid you not!

I just take a sucker bottle with me when crevicing etc. easy to pop the lid off to put pickers in, and can also just suck up any really fine gold you spot using nozzle.
