Going by the topic, you might guess that I have managed to hurt myself. Not by a sharp object in the ground, nor was I set upon by a looney in the bush. All I can say, if there is any moisture on the grass, while walking downhill, do not wear jandals.

First step over the brow, one foot slips out, I end up with my little finger caught between the ground and the handle on my detector, followed by the weight of my body. Instantaneous tear to the eyes and a sof muttering of "golly gosh" or words to that effect.

Anyway, broken finger and surgery tomorrow,

Lesson to be learned, don't wear jandals when the grass is wet. I did still do some detecting while I was waiting for my daughter to finish her gymnastics lesson, lots of rubbish but did also find a 9mm bullet. Had been fired but the pointy end was still attached.

Sounds fun!

I thought that the moment I read 'Detecting, dangerous', that you had actually found something exciting like an unexploded grenade, mortar shell, artillery shell or some other interesting item like a nuclear warhead that had fallen to earth from a Satellite haha - and I was going to volunteer my expertise and experience as remover and disposer of dangerous goods.

Broken finger is no fun and hopefully it was not an important finger such as is required to do the necessary paper work or pluck mountain oysters from hidden crevices.

Any footwear which slips on wet or smooth surfaces is not good footwear to wear when detecting or for that matter anything else. I have taken some wicked falls gold mining due to poor choice of footwear.

yep def sounds like a ouch moment! I jumped off a 7ft tall barbed wire fence once in my jandels and the barb grabbed one foot so basically I was horizontal at 7ft high and coming in like a wounded duck...had a detector in my hand too (don't ask) so that was my main concern as gravity pulled me into the eath I managed to fling the F2 out sideways thus protecting it nicely...and promptly landed or should I say bounced off my nose. I'm only 113kg's so luckily it didn't break...tho I suspect from years of boxing it's tuned into rubber anyway haha!

Anyway hope the op goes well...nothing worse than a broken finger specially if it's on ya bum wiping hand hahaa!
