Just spent 29 days tramping on the West Coast. Had to come out twice to get more food as im not much of a culler or fisher-man. Even so i saw plenty of food walking around, from Whio to Chemois and some Aussies too. I have topped up my Winter-diggings camp with food and fuel. The Keas laught there heads off about that packpack and me under it. So i carried on exploring the wilderness. One afternoon i came down of a spur straight onto some good looking bedrock, and who would believe that, but there was a wee nugget stuck in some black schist bedrock. It ended up being a 1.4 gram nuggy. The tent went up and the trusty old X-Terra70 with the standard 9 inch 7.5 kHz coil came out of the backpack. Over the next 2 hours i have picked up 7 bits for 111.0 grams. the biggest one weighed in at 66.34 grams, a 2 ouncer, all about 3-4 inches down. What a delight. I spent a whole week on that spot and ended up with 18 bits for 153.93 grams. It was a trip of a lifetime. Only had one night of heavy rain, another night with strong wind which shredded the fly over the tent, the rest was just blue sky, low river levels and the best: no sandflys, too dry i guess. Sad is after i downloaded the photos i dropped the laptop and it died, and no one was able to recover the photos. I had to sell halfe an ounce to buy a new computer and will get an external harddrive. Anyway the memories are fantastic, and finally an other spot to put onto my to visit yearly list, since i have lost so many places to claim holders. Then over the last 2 years i have only found 10 grams. My last bonanza was in 2005 with 3.5 ounces on a 2 square meter patch.
Cheers&Beers
Peter

Nice going Nugget-Hunter, it's good to see that there is still decent gold to be found if you get out there and hunt for it.

Absolutely spot on and I am sure for you the creation of happy memories with dreams of what might be yet to come - keep it quiet and keep it to yourself - not a hint and may you find many more bits.

29 days tramping! I dream of it (Saying that I did manage a week cycle-tour-fossick-prospecting on the west coast - maybe not so far off the beaten track). Been the best weather for it. Thanks and well done.

Holy Crap!!! That's freakin awesome!! 153 grams/ 5 ounces, It will be a fair while before we see a haul like that on here again, and a 2 ouncer to boot!! I don't know how you managed to drag yourself away from a spot like that, I'd be half way to China by now if I found a spot like that.
Bloody well done/congrats!! You deserve it, 29 days in the bush, AMAZING!!

Great going there Peter, pity about the laptop... but the gold finds would help ease the pain, looks like you are making the most of the fine weather. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.
