Found the 3rd largest with the detector (Minelab GPX-450 with 11" commander mono coil), then dug and panned the gravel / dirt to recover the 2 larger pieces and all the tiny bits. In a pretty gorgey area that's probably been well hit now. Looks like someone's had a small dredge in there as recovered some sort of hose fastener and gravels have moved around since I was last in there despite drought.

Think I'm going to loose both my big toenails because of the mission. Boots weren't too kind to my toes jumping down dry waterfalls etc. - doh! No pain, no gain as they say :P

Good going Gavin,

Yep it's the best way you can tell someone's been on a few trips in bush, stuffed big toe nails!! Don't worry about it, I don't anymore. It's that time of year when I start tossing up between gold and deer, maybe one more goldie to X creek, hopefully the river is low. What settings were you running?

I've been meaning to ask how you're doing at x creek, keep forgetting to get in touch as always think about it when out bush then forget again when I'm home! Having much joy? I've not tried to find it yet - that's quite a bit of country it could be in! Hope it's still giving up some for you ;)

End plate settings I was running:
Search mode: G
Soil/timings: N (think I had brief flicks on to Enhance)
Ground balance: Tracking
Coil/rx: Double D

Anyone with setting recommendations feel free to pipe up, I'm by no means an expert so always open to advice.

nice work gavin.

shame about your big toes. i've never lost a nail but i have managed to destroy all my shoes clambering round the riverbeds and up the cliffs.

i now realise footwear must have good metal eyelets or your laces act like saws and cut through the shitty material eyelets.

you need to get down this way for some detecting. the rivers are pretty low here with no rain for ages.

i don't use a mine lab but a mate has the 4500 and could prob teach you a thing or two.

what is the smallest detected gold you have had with the 4500?

i got a 0.04 grammar in bedrock the other day. when it gets that small you wonder if its worth digging unless its lying with some bigger mates nearby!
