I have had two detectors, a Fisher F2 and for last few months a Gold Bug Pro with the three coils. The Gold Bug with the small coil or my favourite, the 10x5, is awesome in trashy ground, dry sand, in long grass or scrub and in amongst rocks and boulders. It's light and simple and gives a clear indication of good targets.

That said I "think" I want something else :)

Have you ever felt that once you get to know something really well you get a little bored with it... Not the wife or girlfriend of course :)

Anyway I am maybe looking at a F75 or Xterra 705 or similar. I don't get a buzz looking at the Garrett range. The XP Deus really gives me a tingle in the lower corpuscle.

Anyway the question is .... am I alone in this or do you all have detector envy?

I also would like some Xterra / F75 user to give me an honest opinion and any advantages/disadvantages over the gold bug pro.

Hi Mike

Your not alone I've been struggling with which way to go and it seems we are looking at the same machines.
But... I'm more swaying towards the Teknetics T2 as they are apparently awesome for finding gold as well (even though they are lower frequency than the likes of the Gold Bug etc.

F75 vs T2 same plastics apparently different boards and different software might as well flip a coin, no notch on the T2 I think but better iron discrim and supposedly better for relic hunting and prospecting where the F75 is better suited to coins ( I can already here the people who own these machines muttering "What Ever" and to the owners I invite there feedback so I can also make a better informed choice they both have the boost mode so might be a bit deeper than the X-terra but unfortunately, I wasn't able to compare them.

My very brief experience with a X-terra 705 was I found it a bit on the heavy side and off balance (in fairness it wasn't setup for me though), still a very nice machine, different coils = different frequencies which gives the machine a bit more flexibility.

You already know the Fisher so it would make sense to stay with them but always leaves you curious about another manufacturer.
I've got a Garrett AT GOLD and when I was out with Lammerlaw who has the Gold Bug it wasn't my Garrett I was reaching for.
I found the fisher to be more consistent (less chatter) nicer to swing - the T2/F75 is even nicer again.

Lots to think about

At least there are heaps of reviews on each, downside is so much conflicting opinions.

Lifejocky, Go for the XP Deus! For your area it would be ideal because it packs up so small. Imagine being able to just stick it into a small pack and heading the bush to hunt some of the old miners camps up there as well as the now overgrown tracks to the mine sites. Some other detectors can fit into a pack but they are much more bulky.

Yes I imagine that scenario constantly :) Not too sure about it though as it is a rechargeable coil etc and difficult to get a power socket up there when camping out. The gold bug with the coil folded back to the shaft and held vertical in front as you push through the bush works quite well....but yes the telescopic Deus is a formidable machine.
