Just saw on another forum a link to an interesting Beach hunting documentary from the early 1980's about 2 full time hunters from the Chesapeake USA.
Try not to laugh about the detectors that require both hands to use and the massive handled scoops!

Some things I found interesting in it is that the same research methodology works for us using the internet and libraries. Obscure newspaper reports and talking to old timers is still a good way. Also the same sort of finds are possible here (maybe not enough to go fulltime) but hunt the more sheltered waters for them as bathers avoided surf at the turn of last century.
