Hi Guys
I have been thinking about getting a cheapo ultrasonic cleaner from overseas.
I know a few of you guys use them and was wondering if someone could post some before and after pics.
It would mainly be used for cleaning goldies and jewelery

Any thoughts?

All I know about them is you should really use one with a basket rather than putting items directly on the transducer.

Looking at a 30/50w unit is about $30us including shipping.

I've personally never used one. But when sussing out a rock tumbler I also read up a lot on the ultrasonic's thinking they will be a cheap alternative. From what I learnt from other detecting forums is that they don't have the "grunt" to clean coins. Most people recommended a tumbler for normal coins and electrolysis or chemical cleaners for jewellery.

Yeah the little home-targeted jewellery cleaners are pretty weak and also can't be run for a long time without overheating the transducer. Better off saving up for an industrial grade one. :)

Cheers Guys

This is just a thought but what about putting in the likes of a tumbler gravel/metal (I'm not up with the terminology) into the basket with the coins ?
Would the ultrasonic vibrations just be absorbed by the gravel ?

Just because I had nothing better to do awhile back I elastic strapped a 2ltr milk bottle to a palm sander.
Was VERY noisy as it was filled with coins and paving gap, worked well until it wore through the bottle, now that was a fun one to explain to the wife *8^)

Well, that's certainly thinking outside the box!

I have a cheapo ultrasonic machine that I seldom use, but it is good for my jade carving related purpose. It also takes gunge out of jewellery very well - just using water. Never tried it on coins though. NUGGY

Hi,

An ultrasonic cleaner is a cleaning device that uses ultrasound (usually from 20–400 kHz) and an appropriate cleaning solvent (sometimes ordinary tap water) to clean delicate items. As you wanted clean you jewelry and goldies which are too delicate Ultrasonic Cleaner is a good choice. There are many Companies offering Ultrasonic cleaners I suggest you to check (spam link removed) where you have list of companies offering the cleaners. Contact them and they will give you a perfect solution.
