Number 8 wire, that butter knife cleaned up really well and I was able to see other markings, amazing the stainless was so well preserved, might take it to the museum for info as I know the director there, one day I'm going to find a coin too !! congrats on your finds.

Yeah.....nice find kev. Have you looked up the hallmarks or the other markings online? Looks to be a very interesting find, with what I reckon could be an interesting history. Hopefully you can work out who or what it is associated with.

The Knife is made by "Walker & Hall" NoN-Stain Steel Sheffield- There is a flag flying to the right with W&H as the hallmark, the crest itself is a double circle with what looks like a fern leaf going both directions, inside the double circle are the letters N.C.H.B and near the end of the handle is the number 10 stamped (all on the same side). I have made some inquiries and will bring it along to the club meeting. Does it sound like your fork??. Question is who is going to find the spoon.

Ahhh...ok. I'm pick'n it'll be North Canterbury Hospital Board (N.C.H.B.) and the number 10 may be the ward number. It looked very ornate so I'm guessing it will be fairly old.

Numer 8 wire, that was my best guess as well but just received an e-mail from the hostiptal informing me the NCHB was only formed in 2001 before that they went by a differnt name, at the moment i'm to damn busy at work to suss this out so will have to wail till the weekend. However I did learn that the guy Walker (from W&H) was one of the first to come up with the electro plating process. They were also very well known silver smiths that got brought out in the early 1960's.
Watch this space!!
Andy never mind it was worth a try for matching.
