Hi Guys, Went back this afternoon to where I left off last night & snaged a few more littlies on the same face.

Just below the detector is a signal I was working on. You can see how the lay of the schist is more than 45 degrees from horozontial & the gold is caught deep in the layers of the schist. You can also see how the schist has perfect crevice gold traps.

In the next pic I had actually smashed out a block of the schist to try & get to the target. I placed the block back again for the photo

Once the schist was smashed out & worked on a bit more I uncovered a crevice where the signal was booming from

A sassy little piece of gold to add to the bottle

Think I even found the one that escaped me last night. I then crossed over to the other side of the tail race & my luck continued.

Nice chunky bits JW, great photos too.
Strange how us detectorists are attracted to a bit of exposed bottom lol.

Good going, it annoys me not being able to get out as often as I'd like, especially when I see good gold coming out of the ground, hopefully I should be able to get away this Thurs. for a long weekend as long as nothing changes.
Keep the photos coming.

Hi there digahole, Being in Chch you are a good hour or two away from gold fields. Me being in the QT area it is only a matter of half an hour to an hour & can be at many places.
Went out for a few hours on sunday, boy was it hot, & got 4 little bits for 1.7 grams

Hi JW, just back from my hols so just noticed your post. Always great to hear about the gold you're recovering, and even better this time - got some photos of the type of ground you're digging these pieces out of - nice to see the sort of ground that's producing :)

Thanks Gav, The ground in Otago doesnt change much from schist. Either bed rock schist or crushed up schist. LOL:)

How did you get on detecting during your hloidays ?

Good luck out there

JW :)

Lol. Still like seeing the sort of ground they're getting dug out of though, gives the nuggets you share a nice context. You look like you're hitting mainly high and dry areas while over west coast I've always been closer to the water, but that's mainly because it's so overgrown and the leaf litter is so thick over that way.

Detecting on holiday... nah, I prefer the gold detecting so didn't take it with me. Was over in Rarotonga with my visiting parents. Spent most of my time snorkelling and worrying the sealife :P
