So, today the kid's where away - and feeling guilty not doing something with the time I had to myself went for a walk at the park behind my house.

First I tried the river down the back of the park, as the council plan identifies it at some point as being a swimming hole of great popularity... didn't get all the way down there as it was in use by some feral children (which is good news for the future I guess).

So to get back to the car, I decided to head through the bush randomly (why not right), and a little way in started finding stuff - non of it rubbish! First time ever detecting anywhere other than the beach, definitely going to start doing parks more.

The most interesting, and biggest coin is a Canadian Dollar from 1987 - was hoping for something a little older and of New Zealand origin, but better than anything found at the beach over the last week that's for sure.

Inside the wallet was a drivers license, and with the magic of Google and petrol - it along with it's contents has been returned to it's owner, along with that ring that was found a fair way from the wallet - but had her name etched in the front. The reaction of the owner was well worth the 10 minute drive to her house. Turn's out it had been stolen 18 years ago!

Oh, and all this with the Fisher F2 - why? Knowing very well that there are feral children about, I didn't want to risk any incidents with the more expensive detectors, that and it's very light compared to the others making it just right for a random hunt at the park.

Unfortunately didn't think to get a photo - that would have been cool. You're welcome to post a the story if you want man.

I have been thinking oh taking out my little waterproof Kodak Playsport with me detecting, it would make for more interesting posts to the forum - and a ton easier than posting to my [non existent] blog that I can see becoming derelict after the novelty rubs off.

Great find and grand that you managed to track down the owner - I think that in situations like this the expectation of finding something is exciting - finding something is more exciting - and seeing the look on the owners face and their reaction is the most exciting part of it!
