I've just purchased myself the book Hammy’s Gold. I've read it before but wanted my own copy - full of awesome stories and pictures of gold that act as a real inspiration! For anyone hat's not read it yet I highly recommend borrowing if from the library if you can't find it for sale. At the moment you can buy it online at Gumboot.co.nz, it's where I've just picked mine up from.

Anyway... with all these stories I'm hearing from Lammerlaw and the stories of people who have visited him I'm thinking he could come up with a sequel ;) Another colourful kiwi character with colourful stories. What do you reckon Lammerlaw? ;)

It is indeed the best of the books of this type - my son was impressed and so he got me a copy for Christmas a year or so ago and I to really enjoyed it.

I am almost totally certain that he and my uncle were well known to each other many years ago though I do stand to be corrected. I remember my uncle getting 8 ounces I think it was from under the Arrow River bridge one day - probably back about 1974.

Me writing a book? Well I dont know about that as I havent really got too much confidence in me writing anything. Not only that but a few of the stories I would like to tell could only be published after I have turned up my toes as this country has not got a Statute of Limitations!

There are a few fellows out there at the moment who are quietly working and getting a very impressive amount of gold at the moment and I am sure that they also could tell some interesting stories.

I hoping to get down your way one of these days and perhaps you can tell me some of these censored stories first hand ;)

You seem to write well to me and you could always get someone to tidy it up a little after. Don't worry - not pushing you. Just occurred to me while flicking through Hammy's that you have loads of cool stories also. Always a pleasure to read your posts :)

Do I really have to admit that I also have a lazy streak a mile wide and writing anything actually seems to be a chore which I dont really enjoy and just engage in now and again to pass moments of total boredom when I have nothing better to do and the only things better that I have to do and actually enjoy working at are moving rocks and moving more rocks!

You are welcome to call see me when you are down and maybe a day or two in the hills but now days the pickings are lean so nothing is guaranteed in so far as gold is concerned.

What you could do is record your stories on audio (either on a computer, a voice recorder, or - if you must - cassette tapes or reel to reel - "aural history") and then a professional book editor could mould them into a very interesting book. You could have a contract written that prohibits the publication until after you've popped your clogs, with revenue going to a trust or you could let your offspring fight over the profits.

I talk to myself enough without talking to a tape recorder - at least I can give myself answers even if they are illogical while a tape recorder cant talk back except copy everything your say Parrot fashion - and if I did talk into a tape recorder you can guarantee that I would forget to turn it on or the batteries would be flat.

As for my offspring - they dont need an excuse to fight over things - they are good at fighting over nothing without having something to fight over - especially the girls. In fact right this minute the two girls and their mother are having the father of all donnybrooks over one slice of bacon, slightly overcooked and about to kill each other - imagine what they could do over the royalties from a best seller!

If someone wanted to tape me or interview me then I can also guarantee that they would need lots of patience, go prematurely grey and end up totally bald through frustration which is my state of being ninety five percent of the time but for other reasons namely the lack of dancing girls who offer sideline services.

Besides I have better things to do than write books - like doing nothing, being lazy, gold mining, cleaning guns, more gold mining, sexual antics with dancing girls, drinking home made rum, telling door to door salesmen their pedigrees, stalking the neighbours cat with a brick, more gold mining, hunting, perving at nauighty photos on my computer, playing mindlessly violent games on an xbox and when I am at home avoiding my wifes advances especially when shes holding a broom handle.

I am sure that you can see why a book in any shape or form would be totally impractical.

Strewth Chris I am going red with embarrassment - I dont want people thinking nice things otherwise half of Kiwiland will be wanting to ride the range with me and then the high country will look like New York on Saturday night...I suppose I could handle it if someone brought some loose women with very loose morals or none whatsoever.
