Hi Guys, Went out after work on wednesday night until dark, 10pm. Went to a spot I have been over....I cant remember how many times with my GP 3000 & a number of different size coils. Have also been over it with the GPX 4000 & the 4500. I have pulled off well over an ounce over the times. The best being with the GP 3000. The last time, B4 wednesday night, I went over it with the 4500 I got nothing. So thought that was it. As I walked past this spot on wednesday I thought...why not. I had been over it a few times with the GPX 4500 & the 11" commander mono & was no longer getting anything.
Well bugger me...got the fainest of whispers. Was it a signal or just a bit of ground noise? Scraped away some top soil & the signal improved. Got down about 8" & was into a soft flakey schist & bingo, out came a small piece. You ripper. Scanned the dirt pile before back filling the hole & blow me down, another nice mellow signal & another small piece. Ha, choice. Scanned the hole again & got yet another mellow signal & another small piece. So I opened up the surrounding area a bit more but got nothing more. So 3 little bits in the one hole.
Then moved to a spot where the old timers had piled up a shallow layer of rocks & bigger stones on top of a bed rock area they had exposed. I had got two good size pieces from under this pile with the GP 3000 & the 11" commander mono so though I would try with the 4500 & the same coil. Ended up getting two more bits in the same hole once I got down a bit on another very faint signal. They were amonst the pile of stones & not on bed rock. Then moved to another pile & got a loud signal that I thought was going to be rubbish but was just over 1 gram of gold. Again it was in the pile of stones & not on bed rock.
Now why had I not got these pieces before??? Time & experience has thought me that you never get all the gold off a spot on your first time there, or even the 2nd or 3rd. Why??? There are many things that can have an effect on the detector & your detecting on any given day. Heat, Sun, Moisture, mental focus & consentration, detector tuning & just where you wave your coil.

Good luck out there

Great going John, real eye opener that you can go back again and again to those good spots, finding even more pieces. Makes me wonder too, what the next Minelab GPX will be capable of? I suppose they won't be far off releasing the 5500, or whatever they will call it.
Happy finding mate, NUGGY

Hi Nuggy, How you going mate? Yer blows me away. The next GPX from minelab is supposed to be released about october.....from what I hear.
The gold I am getting with my 4500 is all off ground I have been over before with the GP 3000. So has proved to me that technoloy has made the difference. Guys from forums I belong to overseas are saying to me, Imagine what more you would find on the same ground again with a 5000. I guess they are right but the gold is all pretty small. The GP 3000 did get the bigger bits but of course the small stuff all add up.
You been keeping up with Lanny's posts on treasurenet? Take care.

All the best out there

Yes, I look in on Lanny's thread reasonably often, it's a huge thread now and just getting bigger.
Are you ever tempted to have a go over in Australia? I'm pretty sure you have been before, as I have - ten years ago. I didn't do very well, but had a great time and saw some interesting places. It takes a bit of time to get into the swing of things, and I spent too much of my holiday time with family and sightseeing.
Good luck NUGGY
