Hi everyone

I have just discovered and joined this forum, great to find there are other like minded people
in N.Z with this pass time.

I have been panning, sluicing for a few years and got myself a detector late last year which is a bit of a learning curve and is also how i stumbled on this site when doing some research on how to use it better.

I think i will be visiting regularly theres a lot of good Knowledge here

Cheers

Hi there, Stressless. I've also just joined and found some of the postings to be very informative. I'm mainly interested in panning/sluicing. I used to do a bit 25yrs ago on the Coromandel. I have also got a detector, but mainly as a coin finding tool.
All the best in your detecting endeavours.

Hi karatedad what kind of detector have you got? it may be more for coins but im sure that if theres a
big nugget just under the surface that you cant see it will make a noise ye-ha
I got myself a xterra 705 gold pack and i love it, it has a prospecting mode i have dug up heaps tiny bits of metal/coins at different depths but still need alot more practice with it i think, have just got some proper headphones for it this week so that should help a bit i reckon as it bloody hard to hear the signals without them.

Anyone with detecting tips please feel free to jump in with them.

Cheers

Hi Stressless. Mines a Chinese made MD 3010. I take it on the beaches...so far only found bottle caps and cans...I suppose I'm doing the local council's job of clearing this junk....lol
Still working out some of the controls etc. My nephew gave me a set of headphones which certainly increase the signals.

The Hauraki Prospectors Assn is a non-profit body which keeps itself and machinery afloat by taking people on tours through its stamper battery and the old Golden Crown and Caledonian Mine tunnels. It's just at the north end of Thames on the main road. The guides are members, volunteers and all mining enthusiasts. I'm a member too but in the South Is right now, otherwise would take you through. See www.goldmine-experience.co.nz - the HPA website.
