Hi all, thought it was about time I introduced myself.

My name is Dean and Im a 26 year old male living in Hamilton (north island) with my wife and our 0.5 child (due June this year). My wife loves everything outdoors whereas I had severe allergies and asthma as a child so the outdoors is something of a natural point of resistance for me! However, being married we are looking for things to do together and I have been wracking my brains trying to find a way to motivate me to get into the outdoors so we can both enjoy it rather than drag myself out just for the wife's sake!

Only a couple days back the thought suddenly popped into my head that I used to enjoy hunting for rocks and gems (mostly quartz) as a child and the idea of gold fossicking/panning came to mind. It was like a light bulb coming on. I don't have any dreams of striking it rich, but the idea of going out and enjoying NZ's beauty and perhaps finding a few flakes or nuggets along the years sounds rewarding to me. The main reward would be getting out with my wife, but I am a keen hobbiest and love getting stuck into projects. The more I read about fossicking/panning/sluicing etc the more I think it's up my alley so I was very pleased to find the NZ forum after first finding a canadian one.

Special thanks to Gavin and JW who from what I have read so far are the movers and shakers behind this forum, sorry to any other key players - If i forget to mention you it's only because I haven't yet read about yuo.

Im an active member of forums related to my other hobbies so expect to see me around posting here and there. I have made many good friends and know that people with hobbies like this are great associates and good friendly people so I hope to get to know many of you on the forums better and perhaps even in real life (live pretty close to JW... perhaps some time we could meet to show a rookie the ropes?? would love to pick your brains!) I think Col and dettol are closeby too? The more the merrier! Keen to learn!

Dont be afraid to message me or reply, im pretty open to discussion.

Until we meet again! Cheers,

Dean.

Welcome aboard Dean - great to see you on the forums :)

Started up the forums myself as was / am a newbie and wanted to learn more. JW has definitely been an inspiration and has passed along some very excellent tips! Definitely one of the most active members with some great advice. Produces some great tools too - I've got one of his sluice boxes, a crevice sucker and an underwater viewer - I highly recommend them ;)

Hey there Dean!

Would be happy to catch up anytime you are up in Auckland for a yarn. I'm just a noon but a keen one and learn fast. Also looking forward to picking the more experienced brains here!

I can't wait for the day I find some colour at the bottom of my pan!
