Has any one else experienced something like this ??

I have had my At-Pro for about a year and a half.
I loved it. When it rained (Haha which is a lot in Wellington ) it was my "go to " machine.

Great on batteries and good solid hitting id's, with tones that just suited NZ coins so well.
Emi never bothered it.

Recently though it has be chattering like nothing else (even in areas with no Emi).
I have removed the coil's dust cover and cleaned it, checked all the connections.

Though to be fair I haven't,,,,, as yet,,,, sprayed the connections with contact cleaner .
I have even gone back to alkaline batteries just in case but no use.

I found if I give the coil a light bump on the ground the unit may go quiet again resuming normal operation for the rest of the day.
How ever if I tap the cable, I can set it off chattering 19 to the dozen again.

I really hope it is the coils as, I do like the AT-P very much.
However if its the head unit, I will not buy another AT-P to replace it.

Sounds like a damaged coil to me.

Have you got someone there with the same machine? You can swap coils over and that will tell you definitely.

Good luck with fixing it. I have had to redo the connections to my minelab coil more times than I can remember. There is often a bit of stress where the coil meets the box. With the minelab the wires inside the end of the acble where it connects to the box end up cracking and then becoming very sensitive with any movement of the coil cable causing the machine to make all sorts of anoying noises. I have got reasonably good at resoldering after cutting off the damaged wires. Hip mounting the box of my minelab, which is one of the options with my machine, caused much of the damage. I don't do that anymore. I managed to source the cable ends too so I could reinstate the cable to brand new cable fittings. Hope it works out for you without huge cost!

If it was new a year and a half ago, you should still have 6 months warranty left on it so why not send it in for repair?

Thanks Tonznz :)
I'll have a close look at that connection. Gosh I wonder when that will happen to my minelab too. I think they look cool with the cable on the inside but I noticed mine was starting to cut the outer insulation, where the cable just enters the shaft from, the coil.
I got hold of my files shaped a more rounded entry point added little bit of duck tape to the effected cable then cut a rubber gromit and slipped that on. I can post photo's if you want.. Oh and next time you fix that cable it would be great if we could see some pics (and, or,, a how to) Tonznz :) .. So us Newbs know what to expect :)

Grroovy good point Shilo,,, I just emailed my dealer! Postage back is far cheaper than a new coil.. !!!
If I do have a new coil I will pull the old one apart to see if i can fix it

You have probably tried, but tape the cable tempory to the shaft at both ends, making sure the cable is tight all the way along the shaft. plugs tightened up, fixed mine. Good luck

Thanks Peteatpapaaroha, yes I had the cable tied at the bottom. It always has worked before but, I wonder if I tied it a bit too low this time, with me moving the coil up and down, just getting it in and out of the car,,,, I may have put a bit of stress on my connections.
Though so I can use it while i await my answer from the dealer,
I will get in running well then, tape the heck out of it. Hopefully that will see me right for a few days.
Gosh am a bit scared to tape it up, as if its the head unit it then even with it taped, it may still false.. Do I want to know that haha :-/
... Mind you as Shilo pointed out, I still have 6 months left on the warranty :)
