Just wanted to introduce myself..

I'm a young fellow in Auckland looking to educate myself about gold prospecting from the masters here in NZ. I would love to understand how to read rivers and recognise the best places to find placer and flood gold as well as ascertaining what the best equipment is to achieve my goals. My ultimate goal is move to the South Island and spend some time down there trying my luck at striking paydirt!

I'm also here to play a role in this community and to help where ever I can as I believe in 'giving back' as this is what creates and maintains a community.

Looking forward to getting to know some of you and perhaps meeting in person to share some of your experiences and discuss opinions, not just in respect to prospecting but also other element of life.

I'm very friendly and outgoing so please don't be shy and say hi!

Cheers!

DT

Hi there dettol, and welcome to the site. Being in Auckland, you might want to try out the Coromandel streams for your first fossicking adventure. I hear there is also some alluvial to be found up in Northland.

Hi roman holiday and thank you for the welcome!

I was actually in Arrowtown for a day in August last year and gave panning a go for the first time. I walked up the Arrow about 2km and gave the river a go but found nothing. I put it down to lack of technique or my inability to identify where placer gold rests.

I visited Thames in early January and went to the gold mine being restored by local prospectors which was fun but didn't get a chance to do any panning..

I don't have any gear so I'm looking for advice on what to pick up which I'm sure members can help me out with in the "Tips n Tricks" or "Equipment" sections.
