Gidday andy. Good old penny that. You'll find older than that tho soon enough I bet!
I think my oldest is a 1817 shilling. I actually have two but the date on the other is unreadable. Could be 1816 lol.
Just wait for the following comments from others...!
Reminds me of a thread I saw on an Aussie website counting down in years of coins people had. They had to go year by year til they got stuck
There's another to find and I'm gunna find it!

King George III penny 1806 - 1808. Dates worn off so I can't work out the exact year but these are the only years this coin was minted and George III's bullhead is fairly obvious. Would love to break into the 1700's which could be doable here in NZ. They find cartwheels in Aus so some should have made their way across the Tasman.

An 1807 Brit half penny. It came from a coin spill of six half pennies I found in Hagley recently. The others from that spill are also the next five oldest coins I've found. They are 1826, 1827 and two 1848's. One half penny is completely unreadable....just a thin copper disk.

Oldest silver I found only last night in Oamaru. It's an 1852 Gothic Florin.....very worn but thankfully with the roman numeral date intact!

1858 sixpence although I have a 1696 William III crown but it was not dug out of the ground.

Num. 8 you seem to find a lot of gothic florins, awesome stuff! I'm still looking for my first.

It'll come for you mate.......just a matter of time and perseverance.
It's actually only the third one I've found. Roy1956 is the king of Gothic Florin finds. He must have 15 to 20 of them I think.
