Just had an awesome wee trip over to the west coast. Headed off Fri and creeks were a little too high to get right in to where I wanted to but found 4 nuggets for 2.6 grams including a nice big one at 1.8 grams - was stoked.

Was excited Sat morning as water levels had come down meaning I could push further up the creek. Was quite surprised that I only found junk further up after finding next to no junk further down stream the day before?! Trip was cut short though as took a tumble and munted the headphone wire at the jack - it must have snapped inside. Made me think about the recent posts regarding PLB's - maybe I should get one!

Sounds like a great trip, nice finds. Not so good about the tumble, sure does have you thinking about PLB's. Lets hope its not too difficult to repair.

Yeah, I was stoked with the big one myself. Funny thing is it wasn't even on bedrock! Big enough that my pin pointer helped track it down (usually they're too small). Dropped the pin pointer in the drink but seems to be fine - must have held its breath okay ;)

Really sorry to hear about the stroke! Hope there's no lingering long term effects for you. Sounds scary, hope you're coping okay?

nice gold Gavin, I take you don't use a pan, surprising how many small bits can come up when you shovel the gravel into the pan looking for the bigger one, rather than detecting and pin pointing for just the one that sounds off
Good luck on your next trip

Paul

Hi Paul,

I did pan a few signals I dug up that looked to be in promising spots. Would shovel all material in to pan until signal turned up in there then pan it down. Just found 1 speck in each pan. I need to put my back in to it more next time and start shifting boulders ;)

Cheers,
Gavin

@kiwijw - Cheers mate. Had to get out there and find some after all your postings! ;)

@Paul - Regarding the single specks in each pan. I should add that this was from signals NOT close to bedrock, I guess it would have been different if it had been from material sitting on bedrock. Funny enough 3 out of the 4 nuggets (including the big one) were high up in gravel, not resting on bedrock at all. Was very surprised!
