I'm about to make myself a suction gun to suck up gold.

i've been shown a couple of these devices. I think they were made from the metal grease gun cartridges like they use to grease big diggers etc.

i've already got a plastic pvc version and a couple of little bottle ones.

the metal unit is ideal as it does not float away.

knowledge on where to buy and how to modify would be much appreciated.

thought i better get off my arse and get sorted.

one day it may stop snowing and raining and actually try and be like summer.

thanks in advance. simon.

the other one i use is a down pipe that fits a tennis dall down tightly drill hole in the ball and mount a rod through it with washer either side of ball tighten up so as the ball is even tighter in the tube repeat as the other one

i bought a grease gun from repco. first one took 2 guys to sell me the wrong gun (none of the 4 guns they stock actually sucked - only squirted).

got it sorted next day - turns out the sucking variety were kept out the back of the shop?!

might swap the flexy tube for something rigid but apart from that its all go.

a bit heavier than the pvc type but it won't float off downriver.

I'd be interested to see how you get on. Rigid is the way to go methinks

i just remembered a long time ago i tried using a bilge pump type pump a portable 12v battery the type you use for spot lighting it was low cost

the problem was that it was a pumping action suck stopsuck stop etc and every time it went to the stop mode all the gold droped back down the tube i was using it it small sands at the bottom of little holes
one needs a continuous sucking flow

never have worked out how to get the fines out of the bottom of the small but deep holes (up to an arms length deep)

Gidday Kiwi

One design I put on here some time ago had a smaller tube going into a larger tube so that as material was sucked up, it fell out of the small the into the larger tube. On the up stroke, sucked material in, on the down stroke the material was safe. I put it one the site a while ago but it should be there. The plunger was a tennis ball and there was a hole in the side of the large tube to allow water to be ejected.

All this talk of sucking is making me feel rather awkward.

Exactly right. The thin tube has to protrude into the large tube so that when the gold gets to the top of the thin tube, it drops down to the base of the large tube and cannot get back out the thin tube.
