Hi guys, Wife was away for the weekend so I headed up in to the mountains of Central Otago for the weekend for a fossick around in some new ground. Using the 11" commander mono first thing saturday morning I snagged 2 little bits. The tussocks & grass were quite long & I was getting a bit of falsing from the coil hitting them so swaped over to the little joey mono so I could poke & prod in amongst them a bit more. Got 5 more little bits & that was it for the day for a total of 7 sub grammers.
Next day I wacked on the NF 12 x 7 mono & hit on a small patch of bigger bits. Slowed right down & went over the area in all directions. 11 bits, biggest was just under 2 grams & was down 12". Very faint signal to start with but soom crisped up as I got down to it. Got a few tiny ones as well. Smallest .09 of a gram. I will be back with a few bigger coils to test the deeper ground in this location. Loving the 4500.
Total of 18 bits for 7.25 grams. I have cracked the half ounce mark with the 4500.

Hi guys, Thanks for the comments. Certainly is good to hit some new ground & come home with some yellow. Opens up some more territory with the look of some good promise. It is such buzz to hit new ground & hit on to some gold. There are some old workings in sight but there was no water for the old timers to use to work the ground so they just dug out the very bottom of the gullies with prospect pits & if it was worth their while & they hit on to something they would cart off the paydirt wash to a water source to process it.
On the saturday I was going over their piles of dirt that they had tossed out in their pursuit of hitting the paydirt layer.

Of course there was always the odd nugget that they tossed out on their plies. The beaut & easy thing is that the last shovel fulls that they tossed out from their diggings are always the ones that were on the top of them hitting the richer paydirt layer. & guess what?.....they are the very top layer on the piles. :) :) So any gold is going to be sitting right on top......and often it is.
On sunday I went further afield uphill from where they had dug in the gullies & came across the bigger bits deeper down through the overburden & sitting on top of the bed rock schist. I am hoping this is a sign that the gold has shead from higher up & on its way down in to these gullies from where it has originated from.

NUGGY: Guess what?.....The wife is away again this coming weekend as well. So guess where I am heading :) Cheers mate.

Good luck out there

JW :)
