I get an A with maybe an 8 behind it if the left side centre has a bit missing.

Is it up the right way?

MK

that much I cannot say...it kinda looks like it is but the crown is sorta at bothe ends...if up other way it would be a V not an A which makes sense... VE maybe? Bloody old english style writing is beyond me haha

Nice find. Cant be 100% sure, but it looks like ARC which is Auckland Racing Club. I have a similar badge but to the trotting club. The 1st photo is the right way up. Take it to one of the racing clubs (horses) and ask them to verify.

Yep.....me too mate......not a freekn clue.
I'm still leaning towards an organisational insignia of some kind. Everything from Boys Brigade thru to Military Band insignia, and everything in between.
Hope someone can solve it for you but I don't think it'll be me! :(

well I appreciate ya trying anyways dude cos yep it's turning out to be a hard one...not knowing the actual lettering probably isn't helping haha....I (well the missus) did notice there's a scratched part inside it...says either W11 or WH or HM. Still leaves me blind as a bat.

Cheers

yeah thats what I waondered and I've googled victoria and V and a lot of different things lol and searched through thousands of photos but nothing similar. I still think its war or regimental BUT it's weaird in that it looks like it could be a hollow brooch front, or pill box, or ..?

Shit! It might beat me...

Jim the Penguin was driving along in his car one day when suddenly smoke started pouring out of the exhaust. He limped into a nearby garage and got the mechanic to check it out. Spying a supermarket next door, he excused himself and headed for the frozen goods section, and slipped into one of the freezers to cool down.

On his return to the garage, the mechanic loudly exclaimed "LOOKS LIKE YOU'VE JUST BLOWN A SEAL".

Turning red with embarrassment, Jim wiped his face and said "NO! NO!, it's only ice cream!"

(Drum roll, cymbal splash).

I see two letters on this badge:

I think the monogrammed letters are: A and B which I have separated below:

UserPostedImage

and I think that the edge is not just a nice edge but a rope

The rope around the edge makes me think its a badge with a navy connection.

But in saying that plenty have used a rope around the edge such as scouts and Queen Victoria.

But maybe its a personal monogram for some posh bastard back in the day!

As in "... I am Sir Antony Babbidge of Hertdfordshire and here is my monogrammed badge to show what a twat I am!..."

(sorry to lower the tone after a great start!)

Tony that is freaking amazing what you have done there...I can still see the A but the B eludes me...but hey I'm happy to go with that and say it stands for All Blacks haha

or "a bastard" hahaasxz

cheers for that everyone who helped...it's a bugger trying to identify some of these old things..specially when we're all in our 20's ae ;-)

cheers
