Hey guys, after the meeting last month it was agreed that we'd do a trip out to Chrispy and Poohbears not-so-secret spot this coming Sunday.
Are people still up for this?....I know I am!
Happy to offer my vechicle for carpooling if need too. I'm keen for a fairly early start, as I'm usually up with the sparrows.

Was going to PM you and obtain a phone number this evening Andy, if you could oblige that would help. Jason is making his own way in as is Chrispy. Will try to get hold of the others presently, certainly a car share idea would work for me.

Hi, I'm not a member of the club but have been using the forum for the last year while traveling round NZ (I'm Scottish) I'm in Chch now and I have just sold my van(I think!) and might be flying to Auckland on Sunday depending on when we get the cash but if i'm around and there is a spare seat going I would love to come along. if its a members only thing then that's understandable. I only need a gothic florin to complete my NZ/UK silver collection and have only 4 weeks left!

cheers

It's guna be low tide around 8 or 9am and I'm keen on a bit of a beach hunt around there too so if anyone's keen chuck ya gumboots in as well!! I might drag myself up early and try the little beach at Charteris bay. I gave it a go the other day and found a buck! And 2c but that mighta been my test coin as I'm green as with beach hunting and manual ground balancing etc hoho
There's another to find and I'm gunna find it!

We might have to think about limiting the number on the park at one time. If we have too many people digging holes in one spot, the locals might get a bit perturbed. How many are coming?

Yep we don't wanna look like we're trashing the place in big numbers but I'm happy to go hunting in obscure spots. Prolly judge the best call when we're there and see how it looks
There's another to find and I'm gunna find it!

Yeah good call, there will be quite a few bodies on the day so may have to be careful about looking too crowded!!

Been there and done it on a couple of nocturnal bottle digs. Am happy to advise if needed.

sounds fun too...any cool bottles?

also...i can definitly see council issues in the future caused by large meets causing damage or at least being noticed by the wrong people...could pay to shoot back say 1 or 2 days later and check to see if any holes need re-stomping..ive noticed some old holes "swell" a wee bit sometimes.

ya's might have to tell ppl it's a community cleanup looking for junkies needles to keep the parks safe lol

I've noticed some divots swell too and I've restomped some old plugs some days later.

On the group hunt, while going over pre-hunted territory, I noticed that some people must be digging down on an angle rather than straight down. This is a big no-no because the only thing holding the plug down is gravity, and because the plug is a upside down pyramid or cone, the weight is a lot less too.

You have to dig STRAIGHT DOWN with your shovel/trowel/knife. That means that when you put the plug back in, you have to stomp down on it to make it fit, and the friction of the straight walls helps keep the plug in the ground, even when a mower goes over top.

Inverted pyramid/cone plugs do not stay in the ground very well. PLEASE stop doing them.
