HI All, the family is coming down to Queenstown and hiring a campervan for a few weeks next year and we are keen to do a number of days prospecting. I am aware of the public areas, (what are they like ??) but would like to try and find a area where we will get good gold and get the kids hooked. Regards John. We are from Ngunguru in Northland so happy to bring down an number of good crayfish and snapper to help pay for the assistance.

Hey mate,
Although you will probably not get rich, and you will probably have to work hard, you can most definitely get gold out of the fossicking areas. The 12 mile and Arrow river areas are alright, and funnily enough, some of the most obvious spots are the ones that never get done. Hmmmm. If you are new to this, your biggest problem will be learning how to find the gold, location isn't the be-all and end-all. You can find "good gold" out of these fossicking areas, but only if you know how. Getting someone to show you for a few hours is best.
Enjoy your trip!
