Hi guys, Went back with the 4000 to the same slope where I found the last 9 bits. This time I wacked on the 11" commander mono with the idea of getting a bit more depth. Detected the same area but got nothing more with the 11". So I spread out a bit further & detected some bed rock on the edge of a tailings race & got a sweet little signal. Scraped away the top soil down to the up on edge schist & the signal was strill there. Has to be gold. Dug down into the schist a few inches & the signal was still there but much stronger. I was in to the solid schist & the signal was still there but I couldnt see the target. Ended up smashing in to the shist that was really hard & very tightly packed. Bloody hell...this was becoming hard going.

Took a lot of smashing in to the schist but finally the target was out. A sassy little .58 gram nugget.

I then headed to another area of exposed schist still with the 11" mono on. You can see in this pic how the schist is 90 degrees up on edge & the perfect gold trap.

I got nothing with the 11" so I swaped over to the little 10 X 5 joey mono. Snagged two little bits with this coil. Again the gold was deep in to the tightly compacted layers of schist & took some getting out. This one was worse than the one I got with the 11" coil & deeper The signal was just a whisper but kept getting stronger the more I got down to it.

The three bits for the afternoon. 1.5 grams

Happy hunting

Great post with excellent pics Kiwijw.
Do you use a hand held pin pointer? Might speed up the find although I have never hunted in
solid rock before so just guessing. :-)

Hey JW

Can you use a wider field of view on your photos so we can identify where your are detecting, lol.

Hi Luke, Thank you & you are welcome. This is my usual style of posting with photos like this. I just havnt been taking the camera with me lately.

Hi there Metal Kiwi, No I dont use a pin pointer. Dont see the need. When I get a signal & have pin pointed it with the criss cross of the coil to center the target & start digging on down. When I get closer I just flip the coil up on edge or roll the detector on its side so I can scan or prod with the very outside edge of the coil. In the case of an eliptical coil I will poke the pointy nose edge of the coil at the target. The edge of the coil is very sensitive & it will pin point the target no problem at all. Even in solid rock you can locate the target to a pin point this way. Works for me. Thanks :)

Golddigger7. Ha ha.....I have gone away from doing that as it has got me in the shit in the past. Not that I am on land that I shouldnt be on or dont have the owners permission but more from people who dont want me giving away "their" location or secret spot. LOL :) I have only ever come across one other person detecting on a spot in all the places I have gone to since I started detecting for gold. Go figure. LOL :)

Good luck out there

JW :)
