So I am back after hibernating over the winter.... lol I did do some hunting over the winter but nothing over 30 min a trip. I did have two trips worth mentioning though.

Trip #36

I was heading down south and stopped off at an old park that I had driven by many times. But this time I had my detector so I got out and started hunting! I found a 1865 penny just sitting on top of a root! I also found another old penny from 1897 near by and then I found a good pocket spill with a 1940's sixpence, 1952 penny and a 1944 half crown!!!! And in all my excitement while I was running to the car because it started to rain I dropped the 1/2 crown and sixpence!!!! So I went back and took another 20 min or so detecting over where I had ran back and only pad attention to signals that were on the surface... I did find it in the end though :) but not the 6p :(. Check out my blog to see the silver finds I have made till now. here is the pic of the pennies.

Trip #37

Well I finally got a good hunt in! and there should be more to come as the school year comes to an end ;). I went out on labour day monday to two beaches. One is an old beach that always seems to yield silver coins to me and the other is a more modern beach where I can find a range of coins and such. So the old beach gave me 2 silver 3p one a 1945 and the other a 1940; I also managed to find an old pistol or rifle guard. The other beach gave me the usual old decimal coins as well as two religious pendants that were on a thick string... I thought it was rubbish at first until I saw the .925 on them :). I do not have any pics of the 1945 3p as I dropped it when I got home and have yet to find it... maybe one of my kids made off with it... as they call it treasure... lol

Here are the pics:

Nice assortment of finds there GoldNut. Nothing like the buzz you get from finding some BIG old silver!
I lived in Auckland on the Shore about 10 years ago. Didn't have the MD bug back then but wonder now what exciting loot there would be to find around Northhead and Cheltnam Beach.....lots of early Auckland history there.....have you hunted those spots?

No I haven't, But that really intrigues me... I will have to plan a day to go out that way. I now get 1 day a week to go for a hunt so I will give it a go. But from what I hear your area is really good too... a guy on the forums found a 1/2 sovereign in Christchurch last year... man what a find that would be :)

Yeah...the park that hunter found that half sovereign at, was the same park that I found my first (and only to date) 18ct gold wedding band at.......although a very modern find in comparison to the sovereign!
If you do decide to try Northhead or Cheltenham, I'd be keen to know how you get on. With all the old villa's around that area, I'm sure they'll be plenty of hidden history to find.

Trip #38

Nothing that special this morning. I went to a well hunted beach in the rain so there are not many good finds. But non the less I did find a really mint 2004 $.20 coin.... I thought it was Australian at first cause it was in really good nick. I also found brand new tent pegs still bound by a rubber-band... lol!

Finds:
CoinsOther

I will go out later and see what I can find :)

Trip #39

Well this trip had some interesting finds but hunting this park was HORRIBLE! Tons of canslaw everywhere all shapes and sizes which really messed with my head... The first good thing found was a really old silver ladies ring with a blackish stone. Another cool find was a folding knife... and then another silver 3p... I am not sure if I will go back as there the good targets to bad targets ratio was not great. and I did find a bunch of wheel weights too.

Yeah, life gets a bit busy with kids :). But now that the weather is better and I will be having more time I will be going out more often... but I need to research some more spots in my area... I have a few spots that I have on my "wish list" nearby but I am just waiting for when I can use my car again...
