Well, you have the ultimate detector, and are in pretty much the ultimate place to use it, so I look forward to living vicariously through your future nugget finds.

Good luck!

gpx 5000,

you gave your gold bug 2 away?!

the GB2 would be the perfect machine to complement the minelab 5000!

find the gold patches with the mine lab. then locate every last little scrap with the GB2.

anyway. good luck with the 5000. ran into a guy who had bought a 5000 2 days ago. apart from that haven't seen any down this way. guess everyone has super tuned there older model minelabs and are happy with those results.

simon.

Hi GPX 5000, I live up in Greymouth, and used to travel to Ross quite a bit for detecting. You live in a great gold area and no need for you to travel far.
All the creeks that drain mount Greenland seem to carry good chunky gold. Some of the small steep ones are pretty rough, but the rougher the better for having been less detected.

I'm no help to you on how to use your machine - as I have never used a PI detector. There is a lot of info out there about them though, the American and Aussie gold forums, and You Tube have a lot of info about the GPX 5000 and I have seen adverts about videos on them being available for sale in Aussie, and on Ebay.

A local guy was doing well detecting with one along the edges of old workings - aiming it sideways into the wash along bottom, and I think this method might work well in old drives as well, a bit dangerous to go into some of those though.

I have a couple of mates that detect, (one of them has a GPX something) and we have discussed heading down to Ross. If we do I will send you a PM and we can meet up with you if you like.

Good luck NUGGY

Yep, get that machine sussed - You will need to know what the various noises signify. I need to do more of the same too. Paparoas are a big lot of mountains with a heap of gold bearing creeks - rivers, mostly well detected. Unless you have a specific hot spot you are keen on, save your fuel and find your first one nearer home, Ross is as good an area as any, and better than most.
I don't get much time to go detecting, but will get a day in the next week or two - got a spot in mind, where I have been before, maybe the trip after that will be down your way.
I don't try to cover a huge area when detecting - but I do it thoroughly. NUGGY
