hello,
well been out with my home made sluice box and a pan a bit and have now upgraded to a goldbug (hope it gets here this week). if any of you see a big landcruiser up the arrowriver or someone who looks like they don't have a clue what there doing with a metaldetector over at 12 mile then please say hi. would be good to get some pointers.

bye for now.

hi luke,

i'm in queenstown and out all the time. well more now that i have got a heap of work out of the way.

the arrow is a great place to start with the sluice. a heap of black sand but you are sure to get some colour.

have a look at the permit map on here and you can seen the claimed areas and where the public space is.

claims are meant to be marked. in the old days this was with pegs. the only claimed i have ever seen marked in any way at all is the one up past mace town. marked with a stone cairn.

the trouble is people throw the signage in the river, so a waste of money and time.

i don't know about the 12 mile for detecting. it's pretty rough up there and covered in bush.

you really want to get somewhere where there is bedrock near the surface and you can cover a good deal of area to increase your chances.

i've seen guys with detectors walk up the river there but it's full raging at present.

don't you worry your self there golddiger im not looking to jump in anyone's claim. i stick to the public end and drive out to mace town a few time to have a look around but that all.
thanks Simon, iv been having a wonder about the bush at the 12 mile and looks to be some good spots for detecting but don't really know what im looking for.
