Yes, i've seen that before too, but they dont normally do that many and these are all exactly the same size
I was thinking it may have been a pre trial area for the wind farm as it's only about 4 km away

you've busted lammerlaw. that's where he has corralled his gold stashes.

i think gbr's doc reason sounds highly plausible. at first glance it does seem strange, esp as no fence seems utilised to make a use of both sides of it but has small gaps before the next compound.

Great! Glad to hear it.

On a more serious note, they look like research plots. The are all the same size and located on similar terrain. Notice that they avoided the gullies. Could be looking at different fertilizers, plant species or grazing regimes.

I have come across some of these in my wanderings (not the ones pictured) they were just fenced off areas in the middle of doc land but within 200m of a 4Wd track.
The fences had several Otgao University Botany department tags attached....
Research of some sort.
I did a couple of biology papers at Uni and they told us that several Phds and Masters projects had been done on a lawn that was maybe 50 square metres.
They must be amazingly interested in lawn.
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

well i like the comments, but I would say they are the area's they set up to do some trial work on tussock burning about ten or fifteen years ago. I am sure it was in that area, it was to validate the fire burning prediction model they where using and was developed in the US .
the model is used through out NEW ZEALAND now.

so cheers Treeman
