Hey guys,

I'm new to this site and have just been sitting back reading all of the stories of you keen beavers out there with yellow fever.

I am heading down to Nelson over the NY period for one day and was wondering if anyone knew of spots to check out in and around Nelson?

Or if someone wants to catch up for a pan and a beer afterwards perhaps?

Anyway, hit me back via pm and we can exchange details.

Cheers,
Jason

Hi there Goldenkiwi, Welcome to the site. You can check out the recreational panning areas on the home page of this site. The Nelson Lakes area has quite a few spots to chose from. There is camping allowed at the junction of the Louie Creek & the Howard River. The Porika Track will give you access to the New Creek fossicking area & is ok in a car from the Howard valley end but you will need a 4X4 if tacking it from the other end.

Good luck

JW :)

upstreams from tadmore bridge is a nice place to go nice warm water and you will find about 1 gram aday but if your lucky you will find 2, just park on the right side of the bridge and walk up streams.

Hi JW,

Thanks for the welcome to the site :)

Cheers Pete, I've just got back from the South Island trip today and it's a pity I didnt get a chance to read your recommendation before I set off.

Stayed at a place called Pinedale Motorcamp out of Havelock. Panned the Wakamarina without much success, a few bits of colour but nothing that will allow me to not return to work this coming Monday.

Cheers,
Jason
