Hey Roy. With a bit of research here, I think I may have nailed this find for you.
I believe it is a 1919 Addington Railway Workshops token. It has the words "Addington Railways Workshop" around the top then "Peace Demonstration" around the bottom and "1919" in the centre. The reverse side has an old train (as in your pic), with silver ferns at the bottom.
There was one sold back in 2011 on TM with this exact description (no photo) and was also made of lead.

A bit more research yielded these pics below........

Yeah mate......I found a railway token reciently but not like this one. The one I got was a copper Scott Bros Railway Foundry time check token, circa 1887.

Apparently the words "Demonstration" and "Celebration" were both used during public rallies to celebrate the end of WW1. Some of the larger industrial organisations (such as railways) used the word "demonstration" to show a company solidarity, in times when socialism was alive and well.
Also, apparently because of the influenza outbreak at the end of 1918, public rallies were banned in many NZ towns for fear of spreading the virus........hence the reason why celebrations were delayed until June/July 1919 (the date on the medallion).
